Topic Two: Pattern and Ornaments - In-class exercises (Directed Drawings: three & 2D-3D translation); Replicating my classmate's 3D Model

In-class exercises #1
The in-class exercise was complex and I try to understand the angles and measurements of the lines.

In-class exercises #2
In-class exercise #2 it resembles a smiley face with one eye winking but, I know the size of the hexagon is rather large when it should be quite smaller.

In-class exercises #3
I really took delight in-class exercise #3 because I was able to create a design where we try to study your movements without any verbal directions.

The 2D-to-3D translation
I decided to create a 3D model for in-class exercise #1. I was quite astonished by the outcome. The making of this design shown above was complex. I carefully observe each part and detail of the design to replicate it with vivid materials. I used a variety of materials that is sheeny and reflective. The process was complicated with the different folds to form a certain texture. I used thread to wrap around the stick to make the colors pop out.
The Instruction for constructing my classmate's 3D Model

Replicating my classmate's 3D Model
I was given directions that were quite understandable to properly construct a sculpture with ease. I grasped the set up of the crayon walls but, my classmate didn't specify what shape the crayon wall should be assembled. In the instruction, it states to place the crayon wall at an obtuse angle. I couldn't differentiate if she wanted me to create an obtuse triangle or rectangle. I decided to make it into the shape of an obtuse triangle which was my only mistake. The placement of the candle and ribbon was the easiest part.
My instruction to replicating my 3D Model

My classmate replicating my 3D Model
My classmate had a hard time replicating my model. She was confused about how to construct by the measurement of each piece. I realize I didn't include how to make a 3D rectangle form and the width. My piece was complex to replicate in the process. I understand the flaws in my instruction that hard to decipher.

Reflection:
After conducting the three in-class exercises and replication of my classmate's 3D Model I produced a series of simplicity of designs. This investigation helped prepared me to loosen and test my ability to work under pressure with verbal directions instead of visuals.  The directions were difficult for me at first but, with the explanation of reading the ruler put me at ease along with the help of my peers. I was quite impressed with the growth of my time-management skills and controlling my anxiety. Also, how I quickly analyze the situation by coming up with a strategy to produce the marking with the resources that I had.
