Landscape-Representation, Intervention, and Body-as-Site (Assignment #1: Street or Garden)

Street View
      11x14 inches       Christina Bernadotte, 2018

Step 1:
30 minutes of notetaking

 30 minutes of sketches

I begin my process by choosing a street view by walking steadily down the street to capture the sight of a particular area I fondly appreciate and that presents the area in the frontal aspect of certain viewpoint furthering into a view of various trees and houses distancing in the background. I very familiar with the street and my neighbors kindly allow me to sit and draw this area. I wrote everything sensory that came to mind for 30 minutes and sketch for 30 minutes. This area is very still and brings a sense of relaxation.

Step 2:

After performing step 1, I use my information listed from above to make an imaginary creation. I wanted to showcase the soothing effect of the scenery brings a place of security and to deeply reflect. I choose to use a monotone scheme of colors of browns, yellows, and green to illuminate the settling effect of simplifying the scene to bring prominence to the palm trees and trees without the use of manufactural colors of grays. My color schemes represent plants colors. Brown symbolizing the soil and foundation, green illustrating the stem of growth, and yellow depicting sunlight for photosynthesis to occurs. I displayed the concept of the scenery of growth.

Reflection:
From the critique, I was remote enthusiastic that I was able to achieve the effect of making a sense of the area distancing because I previously had areas in previous work that seem rather flat. Also, I was able to simplify the scene without overcomplicated it with details and letting some areas breath and rest. I  excelled in making the piece readable and clear with the light colors, instead of dark and glooming. I was impressed with the use of pastel because it's not my strong suit. Overall, I'm glad I listened attentively from the last critique from the comments of Don and peers to accomplished my weak areas.
